Welcome to a great group of parents in Lexington, KY, who, like you, have taken the first step towards ensuring that their children will be independent learners and confident masters of math and reading fundamentals.  Your child is fortunate to have someone in her life, who understands that mastering basic skills in math and reading will help them excel in classrooms in Fayette County and achieve the highest test scores in Kentucky.  However, the single greatest reason to contact us today is because KUMON students in Lexington have confidence in their abilities in math and reading.  Did you know the confidence and lack of anxiety among students is a key factor in achieving high test scores?  To read more about that, please visit the the OECD's chapter in "Mathematics Self-Beliefs."

Step 3: Visit KUMON in Lexington,  KY.  Get Directions

Placement Test.  While we are entertaining you with our fantastic orientation activities, your child will have the opportunity to take a KUMON placement test. We will go over the scores before you leave.

Academic Plan.  During this initial meeting, we will also work with you to create an academic plan to guide the first year of your child’s KUMON journey.  The placement test will help to identify where a student will start his or her journey by indicating if there are any “gaps” in the mastery of concepts prior to the student’s grade-level (age-level concepts will be used during the placement test for children who not yet in school).  For instance, if KUMON’s assessment shows that a child hasn’t completely mastered division, fractions will naturally become a difficult area of study for him or her at school.  In this case, KUMON’s method will fill in the gap by helping the child master division, which will cause her performance at school in the area of fractions to improve.

With this philosophy as the driving force, the level that KUMON will recommend your child starting at will be the stage in math or reading, where he or she has mastered all the concepts leading up to that point.

“Take Your Time”

Step 4: Make a conscience decision to commit to academic excellence.

KUMON’s methodology will amplify your child’s potential for academic excellence.  Most KUMON student’s in Lexington, KY work well above their grade level and earn among the highest scores on standardized tests.  However, to reach these pinnacles, KUMON requires a daily commitment.  As in competitive sports, children who excel academically, practice every day.  Daily KUMON exercises should only take students 20-30 minutes (per subject) to complete.  But, as little time as that is, parents must make a conscience decision to provide the space and time for their children’s academic journey to be fulfilled to its maximum potential.

With this in mind, we don’t ask for any parent to enroll their child in KUMON of Lexington during their first visit to our facilities.  Instead, we want you to take the information that we will provide to you home and consider the commitment that will need to be made to ensure your child’s success in school and with KUMON.

“Pre Kick-Off Meeting”

Step 5: Let’s get ready for the first day of KUMON

Congratulations!  If you’ve made it to this point in the enrollment at KUMON of Lexington, you are a parent committed to maximizing your child’s academic potential.  On the Thursday or Friday before your child starts KUMON, parents should bring the completed enrollment forms and tuition payment to our Lexington KUMONcenter

During this meeting, our professionally trained KUMON instructors will teach parents how to grade homework and will provide a KUMON bag and accessories, which will be brought back by the student on the first day of class.  The purpose of this preparatory parent-teacher meeting is to make the first day of class easy (read: not hectic) for the student.

“Do YOU do KUMON?”

Step 6: First day of class/ student orientation

One-on-one help at KUMON of Lexington, KY
The next time someone asks why your child is such a whiz at math and reading, you can reply, “We do KUMON.”  Actually, mastering above grade-level math and reading can take up to six months for most KUMON students to achieve, but, in the meantime, you can be rest assured that your child is well on their way to that accomplishment.  And, as the saying goes, the journey of the a thousand miles begins with one step; your young-one’s journey to maximizing his or her academic potential will begin on day-one at KUMON.

On this first day, and for a few more class sessions after that, your student will work off and on with a KUMON staff member.  During this time, the process for doing KUMON work, as well as organization and classroom etiquette, will be demonstrated in a very nurturing and welcoming way.  As mentioned above, because your child’s starting point at KUMON in Lexington will reflect the mastery of all previous levels, class and homework will and should feel easy.

“Tiny Step, Monitor, Repeat”

Step 7: The life-long learning journey

Gradually, over the course of several weeks and months, through a formal step-by-step process, KUMON of Lexington will provide exercises that will take your student to high levels in math and reading.    However, during this journey, it is critical to remember that KUMON is not called “tutoring,” because KUMON is not a remedial band aide.  KUMON students do not cram for tests and KUMON instructors do not help a child struggle through school homework.  Instead, KUMON is a way of learning math and reading that will eliminate test anxiety and struggles at school.  At KUMON in Lexington, we will identify the source of the anxiety and struggles and replace it with confidence in mastered math and reading skills.

KUMON students in Lexington, KY are confident.
Naturally, mastery of math and reading takes time.  In fact, most would say that it’s a life-long journey.  Therefore, while KUMON students do tend to outperform their grade-level peers, they do so because they practice a little bit each and every day.
